FOCUS GROUP RESULTS

BRIEF SUMMARY OF REPORT
The data showed that employees recognize the Committee’s intention to make professional development opportunities available to all Library staff. It is clear that Library staff are appreciative of the commitment and work of the Library Staff Development Committee. Employees understand that the Committee is working to serve and support them and shared many positive things about Enrichment Day. Participants also felt that the environment of the Library was generally supportive of their participation in development opportunities. At the same time, participants felt that workload and scheduling of sessions were obstacles when it came to attending development workshops and sessions.

FOCUS GROUP RECAP
In January 2005, the Library Staff Development Committee convened a series of four focus groups to review the effectiveness of the Staff Development Program in the Library. These groups were facilitated by outside consultants and all participation and information shared in these groups was confidential.

Forty current Library employees were randomly selected to participate in these groups. These participants were divided into four groups of ten, and then assigned a date and time that there focus group would meet.

Once the groups concluded the consultants compiled the information gathered from all the groups and delivered a summary report to the Staff Development Committee in mid-February 2005.

The information gathered will be used to enhance the Staff Development Program in the Library.
