DEPARTMENT MEETINGS

INFORMATION GATHERING RECAP
In the fall of 2004, the Library Staff Development Committee set out to gather information on how well the Staff Development Program was functioning and how well it was serving the needs of the staff. First, the Committee convened a number of focus groups to gather information from the staff regarding the performance of the Program. Second, the Committee met with departments in the Library to talk more about performance of the Program and whether or not we were meeting their needs.

The Library Staff Development Committee formulated five specific questions to ask at these meetings, focusing on staff needs, program design, and future direction. The Committee members then met with Library departments, asked these questions and recorded the responses. This document is a summary of the information gathered from these meetings

SUMMARY REPORT
The Committee learned that the main reason employee are unable to attend workshops has to do with scheduling. If there was more advanced notice, or if workshops were offered more than once, employees would be more likely to attend. Most departments felt that if job shadowing were offered throughout the year they could participate in the opportunity. All felt that Job Shadowing should not be offered on Enrichment Day. All departments felt that the Program should offer more (Library specific) technology training and sessions related to job duties and responsibilities. Most departments said they would be interested in department specific training opportunities.
