Most serial bibliographic records should contain subject heading fields (600-651). Exceptions include corporation annual reports (classed in 338.741), general periodicals such as Newsweek and New Yorker, and records that are suppressed from OPAC display.
Use the following sources as guides in formulating subject headings:
(all of the above are available online in Cataloger's Desktop)
(available in hardcopy on the Serials Cataloging reference shelves)
All subject headings must be verified against the online authority file to ensure that they are valid headings. Use the "BAM" button in Cataloger's Toolkit to verify the headings.
Consult with Head of Serials Cataloging or a subject specialist in Cataloging Dept. if you need further help.
