Enum/Chron Field

Following the caption guidelines in subfield |v of the copy holdings statement (in the HLDG record), record enough information to uniquely identify an item, usually a volume number and an issue or part number.
     v.12
     v.2:no.3
     v.5:no.1:pt.1
Record enumeration in the modified ANSI standard used in order records (see Chapter 4). Use hyphens and slashes appropriately (see "Punctuation" in Chapter 1 or Chapter 2).

Midspine Field

This field usually contains chronology data.
     1989:Jan.15
     1990-1991
     1986:Jan./Feb.
If the serial is captioned by date, input the date in the enum/chron field, not in the midspine field.

Record chronology as in order records (see Chapter 4). Use hyphens and slashes appropriately (see "Punctuation" in Chapter 1 or Chapter 2).

Supplements

If a supplement is bound in with the basic bibliographic unit, record the information in the midspine field (after the regular midspine information such as date, etc.). Use a plus sign (+) to separate the midspine data and the supplement data.
     Correct: ENUM/CHRON: v.5
                 MIDSPINE: 1989:+suppl.1

     Incorrect: ENUM/CHRON: v.5:+suppl.1
                 MIDSPINE: 1989
If an item record is for a supplement alone, this information is included in the enum/chron field. The caption of the basic bibliographic unit comes first, followed by the caption for the supplement.
     Correct: ENUM/CHRON: v.5:suppl.1
                 MIDSPINE: 1989:Jan.

     Incorrect: ENUM/CHRON: sup.1:v.5
                 MIDSPINE: 1989:Jan.

Indexes

If an item record is for an index alone, this information is included in the enum/chron field. The caption for the basic bibliographic unit comes first, followed by the word "index".
     (1) Correct: ENUM/CHRON: v.12:index
                      MIDSPINE: 1990:Jan./June

          Incorrect: ENUM/CHRON: index:v.12
                      MIDSPINE: 1990:Jan./June

     (2) Correct: ENUM/CHRON: v.1/10:index
                      MIDSPINE: 1981/1990

          Incorrect: ENUM/CHRON: index:v.1-10
                      MIDSPINE: 1981-1990
An index bound with its basic bibliographic unit is not recorded in the item record.
     Correct: ENUM/CHRON: v.14
                 MIDSPINE: 1994

     Incorrect: ENUM/CHRON: v.14+index
                 MIDSPINE: 1994

     Incorrect: ENUM/CHRON: v.14
                 MIDSPINE: 1994+index
An index for multiple pieces or volumes bound with only one of those units may be recorded in the midspine.
     Correct: ENUM/CHRON: v.10
                 MIDSPINE: 1993+index v.1/10

     Incorrect: ENUM/CHRON: v.10:+index:v.1/10
                 MIDSPINE: 1993
