Materials Processing binds over 25,000 volumes each year.This includes the binding of new library materials such as complete volumes of periodicals and the permanent binding of paperback monographs. Books that have been vandalized or are in need of repair where rebinding is the best solution are sent to the commercial binder as well.

Commercial binding contributes to the overall quality and preservation of library materials. The Materials Processing Unit works closely with our vendor, General Bookbinding to ensure that volumes are bound within the preservation standards outlined by the Department. Upon return from the binder each volume is checked for quality control.
