WBEZ’s Gabriel Spitzer interviewed Music Library Head D.J. Hoek about the Beatles manuscripts for the show “848.”
“848” also aired Nina Barrett’s story about Passover “brisket anxiety,” which made use of some inspired musical advising by the Music Library’s Morris Levy.
The Chicago Tribune listed the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies in its National Library Week round-up of ten reasons to visit a library.
Charlotte Cubbage’s article, “The Changing Cost Environment of Managing Copyright for Electronic Reserves” was published in the Journal of Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery & Electronic Reserve, Vol. 18 (1) 2007, pp. 57-66.

April 24—Thursday—Library Security and Safety Presentation—2-3 pm, Forum Room.
Led by John Brdecka and Suzette Radford, this workshop covers the basics of how to deal with safety and security situations you might encounter on the job: an awkward situation with a patron, a power outage at work, walking to your car at night. Registration suggested.
May 5—Monday—NULSA’s Fabulous Wine-and-Staff Pairing Event—3:30-5 pm, Ver Steeg Lounge

As you may have heard, the Library has begun a long-range space planning project. Headed by architectural firm RMJM Hillier, the six-month process will anticipate the Library’s changing space needs for the next 20 years.
The Library IT Division grew by two on April 11th, when Michael North (photo on left) started as an Enterprise System Analyst/Programmer and Thomas Howell (photo on right) joined as a Lead Web Developer/Systems Engineer. 
Over the past few years, the Reference Department has been involved in introducing suburban and CPS high school students to college-level library research. Early this spring, a total of over 150 students from different schools came through the library with their Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate English classes.
This year, NULSA teamed up with Library Staff and Development and The Assembly to throw a bigger, better Spring Party & National Library Worker’s Day celebration in Ver Steeg Lounge on April 15. During the festivities, Sarah Pritchard announced the winners of the six ClimateQual incentive prizes, each of whom receives a $50 American Express Gift Card.
