“One Book, One Northwestern: The Othello Project,” a program co-sponsored by the English Department, Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, the Kaplan Humanities Institute, and the Alumnae of Northwestern, invites the Northwestern University community to read, discuss, and explore Shakespeare’s play Othello this fall. The play will be brought to life in many incarnations and forms, including seminars, lectures, performances, readings, dance workshops, and film screenings.
One day in early August, AUL for Collection Management Jeff Garrett opened an email from a correspondent who introduced herself as Miss T, an MA student in the department of English literature at Baghdad University. She explained that she was writing her thesis on animals in classical children’s literature—including “Alice in wonderlands, Harry Potter, Peter the Rabbit, and other classic folktales by Grimm brothers and Hans Anderson”—and would appreciate any guidance, advice, or useful articles he could provide.
Marek Babala has joined LITSS as a Systems Administrator. He comes to the Library after four years at Acxion Corp. in Downers Grove, where he was a Network Engineer. Having begun his IT career in another library—the Paul V. Galvin Library at IIT—Marek says he was quite happy to say goodbye to corporate culture and return to an academic environment, “where at least everyone’s relaxed and you can wear a casual shirt.”
What you notice immediately when you talk to Andrea Stamm is her enthusiasm - and that’s with a capital "E." When Andrea Stamm has a passion or interest, she dives in, takes risks, involves herself totally in every aspect, and soars. This is evident not only in her professional career but in her own personal pursuits as well.

As library web sites increasingly evolve into virtual library branches—with some patrons visiting online as much as, or even more than, they visit the physical library—improving the usability of these sites has become more critical.
One of the new terms we all find ourselves hearing with increasing frequency is “social networking.” Many people are already familiar with Myspace, Facebook, Friendster, and similar social networking web sites.
A graduate of Northwestern who earned his bachelor’s degree in music, Michael Crider has joined the Materials Processing department part-time. Michael is no stranger to the Library, having worked at the Music Library during much of his undergraduate career, in public services and most recently in its bindery.
