A story on Chicago Public Radio/WBEZ about Northwestern’s new PhD program in African American Studies, which aired on Friday, July 21, included an interview with Africana Library Curator David Easterbrook.
Stacey Atkins, staff member in the Mitchell Multimedia Center, has just been awarded a $7,500 Illinois State Library Training Grant.
Ted Quiballo has joined the Materials Processing Unit of the Preservation Department as a half-time Library Assistant.
Ron Carrier, Cataloging Assistant in the Transportation Library, has completed his MLIS at Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science, after four years of study.
At the Annual Staff Service Recognition Awards ceremony on July 5, 2006, University Librarian David Bishop and Personnel Librarian Peter Devlin formally thanked and honored staffers who have reached five-year milestone anniversaries at the Library.
Thanks to the valiant efforts of NULSAand some last-minute heroics of Dave Strain, the annual staff barbecue occurred once again.

While no one seemed to return from the New Orleans ALA convention last month without a poignant report of the city’s still visibly gaping wounds, International Documents Librarian Louis Takacs got a more intimate glimpse than most.
Schaffner Library Circulation Supervisor Elizabeth Adamczyk is profiled in an article in the July 2006 issue of Chicago magazine about people who commute to work by bicycle. The article, which starts on page 58, is part of the issue’s cover story, “Why We Love Chicago in the Summer.”
Mark Zelesky has joined the Library staff as Listening Center Assistant in the Music Library, where his responsibilities include supervising the Listening Center and assisting with stacks management.
