Roberto A. Sarmiento, Head of the Transportation Library, is one of seven mentors selected for this year’s Synergy: The Illinois Library Leadership Initiative.
A new staff member is joining the Preservation Department in a new term position, reporting to Virginia Kerr. As digital production specialist, Paul Clough will handle day-to-day implementation of scanning and quality control for the Kirtas bookscanning machine.
On March 1, John Kannenberg rejoined the staff in the Africana Library. John began his work at Northwestern University Library in 2002 and after several temporary assignments has accepted a permanent position in Africana.
Kitz Rickert, conservation technician in the Conservation Lab of the Preservation Department, has received a University Service Excellence Award.

Beth Clausen has been selected to participate in Synergy 2006: The Illinois Leadership Initiative, a yearlong program designed to develop future leaders in the library profession and in the Illinois community.
Three members of the Music Library's staff attended and participated in the Music Library Association's Annual Conference in Memphis, Feb. 22-26.
The Reference Department is delighted to welcome Stella Ress as the new evening supervisor in the Information Commons.
At least one evening a week you’ll find Kevin Randall, head, Serials Cataloging, spinning around the dance floor with the Chi-town Squares, a Chicago square dancing club. If just reading the words “square dancing” brings to mind images of Barney Fife and Thelma Lou down at the Mayberry Grange Hall, you aren’t alone.
