Kathleen Murphy joins the Government and Geographic Information and Data Services Department as the social science data services librarian. Kathleen has an MSW from Loyola and a PhD from the University of Illinois in social work, and a more recent MLIS from Dominican.
On January 9, John Brdecka began as the Library’s new security coordinator. John received his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from Illinois State University and was a summer intern at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Paul Burley started as the technical services librarian for the Transportation Library at the beginning of January. He comes to Northwestern from New York City, where he worked at the Museum of Modern Art in 2001. He then moved to the New York Society Library for four years as cataloger/systems assistant.

In honor of John Adams's residency as the inaugural winner of the School of Music's Michael Ludwig Nemmers Prize in Musical Composition, the Music Library presents "American Ingenuity: Manuscripts from the Northwestern University Music Library's Special Collections."
In honor of World AIDS Day, the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies created a special one day exhibit on December 1, highlighting portions of the Library's collections focused on AIDS awareness and prevention.
I am happy to announce the appointment of Greg Gosselin as the department head for Library Information Technology Support Services. Greg most recently worked at Triad Information Security Services where, among other duties, he developed a Privacy and Library Systems Audit methodology.
The Music Library is very glad to welcome Dina Azrikan, our new music public services assistant. Although Dina is new to the Music Library, she has been a member of the University Library's staff since 1994, working as a cataloger in Monographic Acquisitions and Rapid Cataloging and, most recently, the Serials Department.
