New Development Director Joins the Library

J. Alex Hernandez-Herrera, the Library’s new Director of Development, brings 13 years of management experience in corporate, foundation, and individual giving programs in the cultural and academic arenas. His professional background includes service at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and La Plaza de Cultura y Arte Foundation in Los Angeles, among other institutions.

“Museums and libraries aren’t that different,” he says. “I think of the museums I’ve served as town squares where people and ideas encounter one another and converge, both physically and metaphorically. That’s what makes them exciting, dynamic places.”

“That’s what attracted me to the Library,” he continues. “The collections are international and interdisciplinary, and they serve an international population of users within and beyond the Northwestern University community.”

Alex holds an undergraduate degree with a major in marketing and a minor in art from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, and a master’s in arts administration from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. He can be reached at 847-467-7129 or aherrera@northwestern.edu.
