Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a Favorite?
Essentially Favorites and Bookmarks are the same thing. Microsoft uses the term "Favorites" in their Internet Explorer (IE) browser and Netscape's Navigator uses the term "Bookmark". In both cases you can select a page to be saved or "Bookmarked" so that you can easily return to it at a later time.
2) How do I import Netscape Bookmarks into Internet Explorer Favorites?
- From the File menu choose Import and Export.
- You should be on the first screen of the Import Wizard- click Next.
- From the list of actions to perform choose Import Favorites. Click Next.
- The default choice is "import from an Application", which points to the location of your Bookmarks. Accept this default by clicking Next. (Note: you would only need to use the second option, "Import from a File or Address", if you have multiple users sharing a machine and each has their own Bookmark file.)
- Favorites Destination Folder: by default, IE will bring your Bookmarks in and add them to the rest already in your Favorites menu. Accept this default by clicking Next.
- Click Finish. After a pause, IE will tell you it has successfully imported. (If it doesn't, call the Help Desk.)
3) How do I save a page as a Favorite in IE?
Select the menu item "Favorites > Add to Favorites..." By default, the page title is used to name the new Favorite, but you'll be prompted and given the opportunity to rename the new Favorite prior to adding it to the list.
4) How do I organize my Favorites?
To organize your Favorites select the menu item "Favorites > Organize Favorites..." This opens the "Organize Favorites" dialog box which allows you to create folders, rename Favorites, move Favorites to new folders or delete Favorites.
5) How do I delete a Favorite?
To delete a Favorite select the menu item "Favorites > Organize Favorites..." Once the "Organize Favorites" dialog box opens select the Favorite you'd like to delete. Once selected click <delete> and IE will remove it from your list. Click <Close> to finish.
