Acquisitions and Rapid Cataloging
Procedures Indexes

There are several indexes used to organize the ARC procedures. The two major ones are the Acquisitions Procedures Index (or AcqIndex) and the Cataloging Procedures Index (or CatIndex). Within the CatIndex there are several other indexes, including the Africana Procedures Index (AfrIndex), the Multi-Volume Set Procedures Index (MvsIndex), the Video Procedures Index (or VidIndex), and the Volume Holdings Procedures Index (VhldIndex).

To aid in site navigation, buttons have been devised for each index listed above. The buttons have been color-coded in the designated library site colors to help in ease of identification. Each procedural web page should have appropriate index buttons located in the upper right hand area of the page above the title.

The table below lists the major indexes with their respective buttons, along with a short explanation of what can be found in each and the status of that particular index.

Type of Procedures Button What is found here?
Acquisitions Many basic and some specialized acquisitions procedures as well as other links that might aid in acq. work.
Cataloging Cataloging procedures, including special classification schemes, as well as other links that might aid in copy cataloging
Africana Special cataloging procedures in regards to books for the Africana library. Should be thorough and up to date.
Multi-Volume Set (Mvset) Procedures for cataloging mvsets and av's (added volumes to mvsets). Covers bib. editing and basic holdings. For volume holdings procedures see VhldIndex. Still needs extensive updating.
Video Special cat. procedures in regards to videos, laser discs, and dvd's. Last index to be converted; still requires extensive updating.
Volume Holdings Covers how and when to create/update volume holdings for sso's and mvsets. Includes many examples. Fairly up-to-date.

Minor indexes, like the Series index, do not have buttons assigned to them at this time.
