The Library is administered by the University
Librarian and her cabinet of four Associate University Librarians ("AULs") and the Assistant to the University Librarian. Each AUL is the head of a Division.
Department Heads within each Division report to their respective AULs.
The Director of Library Personnel and Administrative Operations and the
Director of Library Public Relations both report
directly to the University Librarian. The Director of Library Development
reports to University Development.
The University Librarian, the AULs and the Assistant to the University Librarian comprise the Library
Administrative Committee. The Committee's mission is: to provide advice
and consultation for its members; to make decisions in the areas of personnel
and budgeting; and to provide leadership for the Library.
The Administrative Committee together with all of the Library Department
Heads comprise the Management Council.
This is a decision-making and policy-setting group whose purpose is to
provide a regular forum for the discussion and resolution of issues relating
to Library-wide policies.
The University Librarian reports to the Provost. The Provost and the University Librarian are advised by two consultative bodies, the University Library Committee and the Library Board of Governors, a group of alumni and supporters.
The University Librarian also oversees the Northwestern University Press, as a separate organization.
